The Top Ten Ways to Deal Stress in a Healthy Way

No. 1: Surround yourself with positive supportive people. Your environment rubs off on you, influences you, and shapes you - they key to your environment is the people who are in your life. Search out and find people that are optimistic in life and who will support you 100%. There is no need to stay or keep relationships that burden or stress you, find people that are healthy and happy and view the world with optimism - they will help keep you, your mind and your body from falling into stress pits.

No. 2: Have a coach, friend or colleague to role model who has a great way of all ready dealing with stressful situations. When ever you feel stress rising or feel under pressure call your 'coach' for advice or a chat or if that is not possible imagine how they would respond or act and step into their shoes.

No. 3. Do what ever it takes to be as healthy as you can. Healthy living, cleaner living and positive living have a massive effect on your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual presence. Being truly healthy means having a confident, strong, yet calm mind, body and presence. Please note, healthy does not mean fit. Over emphasizing American and /or Western ideals of fitness may in many cases create more stress.

No. 4. Make food your medicine. In this case medicinal foods means foods that naturally exist in nature from naturally occurring organic compounds. We will call these GOOD foods. Other forms of foods are actually NON-Foods - these are usually man made, come with packaging and require marketing concepts. These foods we will call POOR foods. GOOD foods help ease and deal with stress while POOR foods create stress and illness.

It is ironic that 'poor' countries of the world eat predominately good foods and have less stress and better vitality while the 'advanced or rich' countries eat poor foods and have more stress and low vitality.

GOOD foods cure, heal, energize, recover, fuel, nourish and feed your mind body spirit.

POOR foods corrupt, clog, aggravate, stress, rob energy and leave your mind body and spirit exhausted.

No. 5. It was once said by Hippocrates the father of modern medicine that, 'Walking Is Mans Best Medicine'. (I am sure he also meant Women - I certainly do) So if food is your medicine you eat, this must be the best medicine to perform. This is true because walking balances the whole system of mind and body.

Walk everyday for at least 20-30 Minutes and perform in a natural living environment is best. (Parks, fields, Gardens, Beach, etc) Please note the walk does not have to be a fast pace, for many people a leisurely stroll is exactly what the doctor ordered. Avoid the hyped up American and/or Western view that exercise should be intense and aimed at 'losing weight' 'burning calories' or 'building muscle' - while these exercise modalities are important they are NOT recommended if you are stressed out.

No. 6:Laughter is our best medicine. You see we have lots of medicine to deal with stress and all of it easy to get. So now we have food as internal medicine, walking as performed medicine and when you add laughter to the mix your whole system is re-booted. Laughter stimulates chemical reactions within the body that help immensely with dealing with pressure, it is like a release valve that wakes up every cell in your body with positive energy. Find things to laugh at and with, and more importantly remember, 'Happy is He who can laugh at Himself'

No. 7: Breathe Deeply. Research indicates that 80% of all stress can be reduced with correct breathing. Having oxygen in your body is a good thing. Remember to breathe properly and pause before reacting to situations that may prove to be challenging. Then laugh.

No. 8: Join a club. RSA, Bowling, Surf, Swim, Exercise, Darts, just get around people that enjoy being together, talking and reminding each other that life is supposed to be about having fun and enjoying our time here.

No. 9: Write yourself or the person (usually it is a person) who is stressing you out a letter. You do not have to deliver it, just write it. Listen to your heart and let the pen furiously scribble. This is a great way to get everything out of your body and on paper and a great way to help deal with stress.

No. 10: Remind yourself that worry, anxiety and stress are often coming from your mind which is thinking about past incidences or future dramas. 99% of these thoughts are fabricated in your mind and never ever, ever come true - flick that switch inside your head and stay here, now, present!

These 10 steps will not only help with stress in your life they will act as points to direct you to a longer more vibrant and healthy existence.

Have a great day. HR
